As the area’s unemployment rate remained unchanged and more jobs were added over the month, Orlando medical jobs and education jobs were the only industry to see a yearly increase during the end of 2009.
During December 2009, the Orlando-Kissimmee area’s unemployment rate remained at 11.9 percent, following an increase from 11.5 percent during November. The area’s rate is higher than the national unemployment rate at the time of 10 percent.
The Orlando area had a total non-farm employment of 1,025,200 workers during December, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is up from 1,021,400 workers during November, but a 3.7 percent decrease from December 2008.
