There are plenty of opportunities when it comes to Miami government jobs.
The City of Miami uses a mayor and city commissioner form of government. The city commission consists of five commissioners, which are elected by five single member districts. The commission serves as the governing body, as it has the power to pass ordinances, adopt regulations and exercise any powers allowed via the city charter.
The mayor is elected by the city as a whole and is responsible for appointing a city manager. Together, the city commission and the mayor make up the City Council. All members of the city’s government work out of the City Hall of Miami.
Tomas P. Regaldo currently serves as the city’s mayor. Wilfredo Gort is commissioner of District 1, Marc Sarnoff is commissioner of District 2, Frank Carollo is commissioner of District 3 and Francis Suarez is commissioner of District 4, while the commissioner seat for District 5 is currently empty.
Pedro G. Hernandez currently serves as city manager, while Julie O. Bru serves as the city attorney and Priscilla Thompson serves as the city clerk.
Fortunately, there are several other opportunities to work in city government if you’re not interested in serving as an elected or appointed official.
