Those seeking a career in education will find that Las Vegas teaching jobs have a lot to offer.
Throughout much of the nation, the education industry has continued to prosper, despite the economic recession. During December 2009, the country’s educational services sector employed 3.1 million people and had an unemployment rate of 6 percent.
The Las Vegas-Paradise area’s education and health services industry employed 69,100 workers during November 2009, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is down from 69,400 workers during October, but a 2.7 percent increase from November 2008.
As a whole, Nevada’s education and health services industry employed 99,100 workers during November, down from 99,400 workers during October, but a 3 percent increase from the previous year.
Educators in Las Vegas can expect to be paid relatively well, as the average salary for public school teachers is between $46,559 per year and $61,844 per year, according to Salary.com.
The public primary and secondary education system in Las Vegas is controlled by the Clark County School District. With an enrollment of about 314,000 students during the 2007 to 2008 school year, the district is the fifth-most populous in the nation, according to Wikipedia.
When it comes to higher education, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is one of the most prominent institutions in the area. The University of Nevada School of Medicine also has a campus near downtown Las Vegas.
Nearby Henderson is home to Nevada State College, Tuoro University Nevada, the University of Southern Nevada, DeVry University and the Keller Graduate School of Management. The College of Southern Nevada has campuses in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson.
Several national colleges have campuses in the Las Vegas area, including the University of Phoenix, Apollo College, National University and ITT Technical Institute.
