Oregon Medical Jobs On the Up in Klamath County

Those looking for Oregon medical jobs in Klamath County have had more luck lately despite the fact that the state’s healthcare industry has slightly declined.

In Klamath County, more employers have been actively recruiting healthcare professionals, while at the same time, healthcare related educational offerings at post-secondary institutions throughout the county have expanded.

During Q1 2009, the healthcare and social assistance sector accounted for the most private-sector jobs in the county. The industry, which has been able to add jobs since the beginning of 2000, also had the highest salary of any industry in Klamath County.

During 2002, the number of jobs in the healthcare and social assistance sector exceeded the number of jobs in the manufacturing industry for the first time in the county’s history. During 2008, the average pay for workers in the healthcare and social assistance sector exceeded the average pay for workers in the manufacturing industry.

The Oregon Employment Department’s Oregon Job Vacancy Survey found that during the spring of this year, the healthcare and social assistance industry had the most vacancies of any industry, with 5,744 available jobs. Aside from being one of the fastest growing industries, the healthcare industry also is one of the largest private industries in Oregon.

Oregon’s education and health services industry employed 224,500 workers during September, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is down from 226,400 workers during August, but a 1.1 percent increase from last year.

The added jobs in Klamath County could help Oregon’s economy, which has continued to lose jobs, despite the fact that the state’s unemployment rate has begun to decline.

During September, Oregon saw its unemployment rate decrease from 12 percent to 11.5 percent, but that number is still higher than the national unemployment rate of 9.8 percent.

Oregon had a total non-farm employment of 1,613,800 workers during September, which is down from 1,624,100 workers during August and a 6.1 percent decrease from last year.
