Siemens to Create 80 Healthcare Jobs

Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics is expanding its warehousing and distribution operations in Indiana, a plan that should create 80 new healthcare jobs during the next year.

The company develops medical diagnostic products, and markets those products to help diagnose such problems as diabetes, allergies and cardiovascular disease. The expansion will consist of consolidating the company’s distribution operations from other states into an existing 300,000-square-foot facility in Plainfield, a suburb of Indianapolis, according to a press release.

“We’re demonstrating again today the ambition we have to further position Indiana as a leader in the logistics and life sciences industries,” Governor Mitch Daniels said in the release. “Siemens’ continued commitment to Indiana further strengthens our position as a hub for these growing industries.”

Siemens, which is headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois, currently employs about 60 workers in the Indianapolis area. The company plans to begin hiring workers for the new facility shortly.

“We are confident Indianapolis is an excellent location for us to expand our distribution operations,” Donal Quinn, chief executive officer of Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, said in the press release. “It is an ideal location, and the new site offers technology enhancements that will help us advance the quality and efficiency of our operations. We also believe that by adding more jobs in the Indianapolis area, this expansion will have a positive impact on the community.”

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation has offered Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics $535,000 in performance-based tax credits and $67,500 in training grants.

“Plainfield is pleased to welcome Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics to our community, where it will join other companies that are providing life science and healthcare products and services,” Robin Brangard, Plainfield Town Council president, said in the release. “This again shows the viability of the Plainfield community and the positive business and life style amenities that we have to offer. This would not have come about without the cooperation of Plainfield, Hendricks County Economic Development Partnership and the state.”
