Jobs in San Antonio Outlook
With the city-wide unemployment rate at it’s lowest in sevens years this August, those searching for San Antonio jobs won’t experience any undue difficultly. Spurred by the seasonal hiring related to the school year, only 4 percent of the city’s jobseekers were unable to find work. Educational services alone added 1,200 new employees during the first month of classes.
According to Aaron Smith, Alamo WorkSource’s labor market expert, “There was nothing out of the ordinary for the month.” He went on to say that “Unemployment, however, continues to hover at historically low levels, a situation that’s good for jobseekers but creates strain for employers looking to fill jobs.” With in the last year there have been 14,400 new San Antonio jobs created, giving the city a job growth rate of 1.8 percent.
Companies may soon find the current labor even more shallow as 350 new San Antonio jobs will be created in the next few months. Recently, Kohl’s opened it’s fifth store in the area as part of the company’s plan for 95 new stores nationwide by the end of the season. For the retailer to be able to operate efficiently, 150 new employees will be needed.
Boeing also soon be competing to find the job pool’s best swimmers in the immediate future. The company recently signed $1.1 Billion, 10-year contract with the U.S. Air force and will be creating 200 new jobs in San Antonio. Many of these new employees will assist in the maintenance of the new aircraft that will be arriving shortly.
When asked about the contract, U.S. Representative Charles Gonzales said that he was “please that they [Boeing] will continue to have a strong presence in San Antonio.” He went on to say that “this investment in our city will be a great addition to our already robust local economy, and I’m grateful that both Boeing and the Air Force will continue to reap the benefits of the flourishing business environment and talented workforce that exists in San Antonio.”
