I think the worse part about that situation is that we've either been there ourselves, know someone who has been there or it is easier to imagine being in the situation.  Knowing that it is very close between the two makes it about a thousand times tougher for me, even as an internal recruiter. Trying to soften the blow only helps so much. :???:
