Arizona Manufacturing Jobs Lost to California

What could have been new Arizona manufacturing jobs are now going to California.

Scottsdale-based Kyocera Solar Inc. recently announced that it will open a new factory in San Diego despite statewide efforts to create incentives and attract alternative-energy companies to Arizona.

Kyocera Solar Inc. is a subsidiary of Kyoto, Japan-based Kyocera Corporation, which currently has about 4,000 American employees. The company has solar-panel factories in Japan, China, the Czech Republic, and Tijuana, Mexico.

MAXIMUS Tax Credit and Employer Services, a division of MAXIMUS, Inc., recently announced its alliance with Broadbean Technology, a global provider of job advertisement distribution and candidate response tracking technology.

The partnerships will allow Broadbean’s current customer base, which is comprised of some of the world’s largest staffing companies, recruitment advertising agencies, technology vendors and recruitment process outsourcing businesses, to post openings on MAXOutreach, MTCES’ job recruitment and compliance solution.

Nevada Nursing Jobs Should Come Easy for UNLV Students

Students at one local school should be well-prepared for Nevada nursing jobs.

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Nursing recently announced that 100 percent of its students passed the National Certification Licensure Examination during Q4 2009.

“The licensure exam is an important way to evaluate how effectively we’re preparing our students to enter the nursing workforce,” Dean Carolyn Yucha told The Rebel Yell. “We’re pleased that a record number of our students are graduating at a high level and are ready to meet the evolving healthcare needs of Nevadans.”

Jobs in Texas Could Decrease from Lack of Renewable-Energy Policy

The lack of a national renewable-energy requirement could actually eliminate jobs in Texas.

A new study from the RES Alliance for Jobs found that while renewable-energy technology could create hundreds of thousands of new jobs throughout the United States, the lack of enforcement to use that energy could cause Texas to lose many positions.

The study, conducted by Navigant Consulting, found that if Congress adopts a national standard requiring 25 percent of electricity production to come from renewable sources by 2025, it would result in 274,000 new jobs.

San Antonio Insurance Jobs Created by Allstate

One of the most popular company’s is planning to open a new customer information center and create hundreds of San Antonio insurance jobs.

Allstate Insurance Co. recently announced that it plans to open a bilingual customer information center in San Antonio. The company hopes the new facility will help improve customer service by reducing call volumes and expanding the company’s bilingual capabilities. To help entice Allstate to San Antonio, the State of Texas is offering the company a $1.1 million investment from the Texas Enterprise Fund.

“Business leaders continue to look to Texas as the place they want to be, thanks to our combination of low taxes, fair legal system, predictable regulatory environment and quality workforce,” Gov. Rick Perry said. “This Texas Enterprise Fund investment will help Allstate tap into a growing market of bilingual Americans, while providing quality employment and steady income for hundreds of Texas families.”

Orlando Medical Jobs, Education Jobs Only Industry to Increase Over Year

As the area’s unemployment rate remained unchanged and more jobs were added over the month, Orlando medical jobs and education jobs were the only industry to see a yearly increase during the end of 2009.

During December 2009, the Orlando-Kissimmee area’s unemployment rate remained at 11.9 percent, following an increase from 11.5 percent during November. The area’s rate is higher than the national unemployment rate at the time of 10 percent.

The Orlando area had a total non-farm employment of 1,025,200 workers during December, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is up from 1,021,400 workers during November, but a 3.7 percent decrease from December 2008.

Nevada Job Seekers May Be Enticed by New Report

A recent report from Whittaker Associates, Inc. found that Nevada is a better place than California for businesses and workers, because of everything from its friendlier tax climate to its strong entrepreneurial stance.

“This study was a large undertaking that ultimately illustrated some pertinent points in comparing California to Nevada,” Dean Whittaker, founder of Whittaker Associates, said. “It really showed us that Nevada is a great place to start and run a business. This information can be used to help recruit businesses and ultimately improve the unemployment rate.”
